Mama's Crescent Rolls

Updated: Jan 10, 2021

Oh me! Oh my! MAMA KNOWS that you ain't ever had rolls like these before! Whether they are plain, cheese filled, or my favorite - NUTELLA - these babies are sure to please even the pickiest of eaters in your home.

Recipe makes about 2 dozen rolls (give or take depending on the size)

Ingredients:

- 1 cup of warm water

- 1 cup of warm milk

- 2 tbsp sugar

- 1 tbsp instant yeast (or 1 1/2 tbsp active dry yeast)

- 1 tsp salt

- 2 tbsp oil (I use vegetable but any will do - just note that flavored oils (e.g. coconut) will slightly change the taste and may not pair well with your filling)

- 3 1/2 cups of all purpose flour

- 1 egg (beaten for brushing)

- coarse salt (for sprinkling)

Method:

Stir together warm water, warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Allow the yeast to activate (5 minutes)

Stir salt and oil into the yeast mixture. Add 3 1/2 cups of flour. Attach the dough hook to your stand mixer and mix on low speed until the dough begins to separate from the sides of the bowl

Continue mixing the dough on medium speed for another 3 - 5 minutes. Next, sprinkle some flour and shape the dough into a ball with your hands. Cover and let stand at room temperature until it doubles in size.

Transfer your dough to a lightly floured surface and separate in half to form two dough balls. Roll each one out and cut it up into triangles. Fill with your favorite filling (optional)

Roll up each triangle. Transfer to a greased baking pan and brush with egg. Sprinkle coarse salt. Bake on the middle rack at 190°C (375°F) until golden brown (about 25 minutes).

Baking can be intimidating for some. But this recipe is perfect for any beginner. Give it a try and let me know how you liked it by commenting below. Bon Appetit~
